Join a team that takes lactation care seriously

You became an IBCLC because you wanted to make a real difference, not sprint through a postpartum unit at 15 minutes per patient. If you’re looking for a role where you actually have time to help, where the clinical work is interesting, and where you’re part of a structured, supportive team, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

The Lactation Collection (TLC) is a growing IBCLC private practice serving families across Salt Lake and Utah counties. We’re adding a contractor to our Salt Lake County coverage area and want to find someone who fits our team and our values, not just the credential requirements.

Candidate requirements

This Role Is for You If…

  • Certification: You hold an active IBCLC certification.
  • Service Delivery: You enjoy in-home consultations, spending real time with families in their space.
  • Virtual Care: You’re open to virtual consults.
  • Clinical Depth: You’re comfortable with the range of breastfeeding challenges families bring: latch and positioning issues, nipple pain, supply concerns, pumping support, bottle refusal, post-frenectomy care, etc.
  • Relationships: You want to build real relationships with the families you serve.
  • Geography: You’re based in or near Salt Lake County and have reliable transportation for home visits.
  • Collaboration: You’re willing to learn TLC’s approach, work within our playbooks, and train alongside our team.
  • Mentorship: You’re comfortable mentoring IBCLC mentees as part of the role.

What working at TLC looks like

The Cases

Our team helps expectant and new families navigate the full range of breastfeeding challenges. Most visits are 90 minutes. You’ll have the time to actually do a thorough assessment, observe a full feeding, and create a care plan that fits the family you’re serving.

How It Works

  • Autonomy: You own your schedule; you set your availability, and you manage your own caseload.
  • Support: TLC has a team member who handles inbound calls and client inquiries, so you’re not fielding everyday calls.
  • Billing: Much of our insurance billing runs through The Lactation Network (TLN), and we’re actively expanding our in-network relationships.

The Team

TLC is a small team of IBCLCs who collaborate, share cases when needed, and actually know each other. If you get a complex tongue tie referral or want a second set of eyes on a case, your colleagues are accessible. We’re not a solo practice pretending to be a group; we work together.

Why private practice (not a hospital)

If you’ve worked in a hospital setting, you already know what the tradeoffs look like. Private practice isn’t for everyone; but for the right IBCLC, it changes everything.

What’s different about TLC:

  • No shift work, no call rotations. You work when you’re available, and you’re not on anyone’s overnight schedule.
  • Actual consultation time. 90+ minutes per visit; time to assess, observe, coach, and send a family home with a real plan.
  • You practice within a team, not alone. TLC has established playbooks, clinical guides, and a team to lean on; you’re not starting from scratch or figuring it out in isolation.
  • Continuity of care. You follow families through their journey.
  • Variety. Hospital IBCLCs often see the same early-postpartum problems repeatedly. Private practice brings the full range: tongue tie cases, supply investigations, return-to-work planning, extended nursing challenges, and everything in between.
  • No hospital politics. Just the work.

Compensation & structure

  • This is a 1099 independent contractor arrangement.
  • You earn a percentage of each consultation; both self-pay visits and insurance-reimbursed visits.
  • TLC handles all insurance billing and claims follow-up, so you don’t chase payments or deal with payer paperwork.
  • Your income reflects your caseload and availability.

About The Lactation Collection

TLC is an IBCLC private practice based in Utah, providing evidence-based lactation support to families across Utah and Salt Lake Counties and virtually worldwide. With 1,000+ consultations completed, we’re known for fast scheduling (typically within 24–48 hours) and insurance-covered care that’s genuinely accessible.

Our approach is expert, hands-on, and non-judgmental. We think the best lactation support sounds like a knowledgeable friend who also happens to have all the clinical answers.
